Question 1

What is QuoteTrace?

Accepted Answer

QuoteTrace is an information and document-comparison tool for UK homeowners. You upload your original quote or agreement and a new charge, variation, invoice, email or similar document. QuoteTrace compares them in plain English and highlights what appears to have changed, what is unclear and what you may want to ask your contractor.

Question 2

Does QuoteTrace tell me whether my builder is overcharging me?

Accepted Answer

No. QuoteTrace does not decide whether a charge is fair, reasonable, legally payable or correct. It compares the documents you provide and highlights areas that may be worth checking.

Question 3

Does QuoteTrace provide legal advice?

Accepted Answer

No. QuoteTrace does not provide legal, surveying, engineering, construction or financial advice. If you need a legal or technical decision made, you should speak to an appropriately qualified professional.

Question 4

What documents can I upload?

Accepted Answer

You can upload documents such as building quotes, estimates, agreements, scopes of work, variations, additional charges, invoices, contractor emails and clear photos or scans of printed documents. Files must be PDF, JPG or PNG.

Question 5

What happens to my documents?

Accepted Answer

QuoteTrace uses uploaded documents to provide the comparison service. See the QuoteTrace Privacy Policy for information about how documents and other information are handled.

Question 6

Do I need an account?

Accepted Answer

No. QuoteTrace is designed to let you use the comparison service without creating an account.

Question 7

How much does QuoteTrace cost?

Accepted Answer

You can try a basic comparison for free. The full Detailed QuoteTrace Report costs £9.99 as a one-off payment. There is no subscription.

Question 8

Is the analysis always accurate?

Accepted Answer

No automated document analysis is guaranteed to be perfect. QuoteTrace results may contain mistakes or omissions, so important information should always be checked against the original documents.

Question 9

Can QuoteTrace tell me if a variation is legally valid?

Accepted Answer

No. QuoteTrace can highlight what the documents appear to say, but it does not determine contractual or legal validity.

Question 10

Can I download my report?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Detailed QuoteTrace Report includes a downloadable PDF.

Question 11

Can I use QuoteTrace on my phone?

Accepted Answer

Yes. QuoteTrace is designed to work on modern mobile and desktop browsers.
